Lyrics
I went to the country and then I came back. I waited tables. I waited some more. I kept on waiting till the bills were filled. I drained my pockets in odd-numbered years. But the even-numbered ones made me stable again. My pockets were never heavy, I could always jump high, over garbage pails on sidewalks, I was never tied down. I guess I’ve been free. I’ve tasted that air, I bet I’m really lucky. I think that thought often now so why do I cry? Why do I cry if I’ve led a good life? I never tried to hurt nobody. Sometimes when you try so hard you get the opposite. I went to the country and then I came back. I waited tables. I waited some more.
