Aulos Diptych by Limestone Ziggurat
Following the ring modulation studies on "Desculptural" and "Resculptural," the "Aulos Diptych" is an adjacent double-album consisting of two sessions with the ARP Odyssey monophonic analog synthesizer, which also focus on the machine's ring modulator.
The first session is unique in that it bypassed the Odyssey's lack of individual outputs for the two oscillators and the ring modulator (the machine has only a single TRS jack for the entire mixer section, unlike the ARP 2600 which offers individual outputs for just about everything) by separately recording all three signals with the other two removed, and re-assembling those signals in post, in order to individually filter and pan them in the stereo field.
The second session is the sound of the Odyssey's mono output multed into a faux stereo in my modular system, then routed through three stereo processors - Strymon's Magneto four-head tape delay system, and two different Clouds modules from Mutable Instruments - alongside some very soft noise generation from the Buchla Source of Uncertainty. This session also drove the Odyssey's low-frequency oscillator into the audible range, where it combined with the two VCOs and ring modulator to create a four-voice chord.
