Lyrics

So he drove his truck
Down the terrace through his field
To the back forty of his farm
Where he saw a blinding light

Then his engine died
And the whole world grew still
And before him sat a spaceship
And he said, “Well I’ll be damned”

And the ship became a church
From the front door came a man
With a bible in his hand
He said, “We come in peace.”

So the farmer rubbed his eyes
And when he opened them up again
He saw a preacher with the bible
And he said, "Well I’ll be damned.
I can’t stand here burnin’ daylight
With preachers from outer space
So kindly state your business
Cos’ I must be on my way.
I’ve gotta feed my cows
And get to work today
I’ve gotta feed my cows today.”

Well the preacher said, “I’ve come here
To facilitate your world.
I’m what you’d call a sinner
In the place where I come from.
I’ve come to seek redemption
Do penance for my past.

I guess I’m what you’d call
A missionary.”

Excuse me mister spaceman
But I must be on my way
I ain’t too much for preachers
And the things that preachers say
All I really know for sure
And all I got to say is
I got to feed my cows today

And the preacher lifted up his hands
And the grain came down from the sky like rain
And the cows were fed

And the church became a spaceship
And it slowly disappeared
And the farmer shook his head and said.
“Well I’ll be damned”
