Annihilation Mourn by CHVRCH STREET / MELTINGVENUS

Following releases on Noholiday and Drama Recorder respectively, CHVRCH STREET of New Jersey and MELTINGVENUS of Madrid have come together on this momentous, imposing split release, cementing their places as new masters of thunderous harsh ambient.

Both artists set their positions from the beginning, there’s no tentative first steps or ambling build, instead the listener is immediately submerged into a cascade of voluminous tone and deep, dolorous atmospherics.

If there were a distinction to be made between each artist, it would be that CHVRCH STREET harnesses a truly demonic, chasmal ebb and flow of texture and resonance, whereas MELTINGVENUS adds slightly sharper and more twitchy, pulsing elements to the gloom. But these discrepancies merely help to signify how uniquely simpatico both artists are, and how that unifying focus on creating such colossal and hypnotically sepulchral soundscapes has produced a release as forbidding, engulfing and immense as ‘Annihilation Mourn’.
