Fantasy Clouds by The Spectacular Fantastic

Back again with another album full of twangy goodness , Mike Detmer has re-emerged with a cast of characters that includes Jonathan Williams, William Ryan Fletcher, and Daniel Peterson to continue his journey through twangy home spun lo-fi folk rock.

Since their inception in the early 2000's, The Spectacular Fantastic have been releasing albums on small regional labels, earning a modest following over the years. Highlights from the band's past include a top 3 finish in the final 97xposure contest put on by the iconic 97x woxy, a Citybeat CEA nomination in the the singer/songwriter category that same year and several regional appearances at festivals including Midpoint Music Festival, Desdemona and the Forecastle Festival in Louisville Ky. The band also created quite a buzz in the early internet blog days by self releasing several free albums and eps.

Based in the rolling hills of Southeastern Indiana for the better part of his life, it's impossible to separate the dream from reality. When listening to “Fantasy Clouds” it's hard to tell where the tall grass ends and the gravel roads begin.

Whether on the countrified power-pop of Weight of the world, or on the sly, on the nose Fletcher and Williams collaboration Greed, we once again find Detmer releasing an album of catchy pop tunes that are easy on the ear and full of melodic structure. While the years may erode many things, he is staying nostalgically fresh in this current incarnation.

After several live solo performances on the outskirts of Cincinnati in the fall of '24, Mike plans to bring an album release show to the newly renovated Liberty Theater in his hometown of Lawrenceburg Indiana. This show will take place on Saturday, February 22nd and include several local heroes to help him kick off the next era of live music for The Spectacular Fantastic.
