Day Three by Zeek

It looked like the studio had been double-booked by a gamelan ensemble and Raymond Scott. Noise generators and gongs, a phantasmagoria of pedals and a full deck of cymbals, a million sticks and a zillion buttons. Zeek had politely set up shop for a session that would be equal parts Matmos and Eric Dolphy, space exploration and virgin sacrifice. Despite contrary sonics, Zeek is a duo. She is an acoustic instrument and an electric instrument being tested for mettle by twin engineers who approach their experiments like scientists at a cock fight.

Zeek is a painter who has forsaken subjects in the distraction of paint itself. Zeek is a biologist approximating a dozen primordial stews to watch them thrive or stale under generated lightning over unnerving spans of time. Zeek is neither cruel nor kind. Zeek is neither fast nor slow nor moderate. And, to paraphrase the poet, Zeek is not as loud as she sounds. The 3+ hours of audio captured at Gilly Hut Studio on June 12, 2021, contain no emotional content. The very best of those hours has been distilled into Day Three. The result is as much séance as album. Zeek is science.

You are not encouraged to enjoy this music. You are invited to analyze the data, survey the damage, question the witness, tag the body. Such is Zeek.
