woke up lit up a cigarette
and never put it out
keeps a never ending struggle in a bottle that he recycles
over and over and over
til he jumps in the cockpit to imaginary moons
on paper planes and inflated balloons
maybe he would get a better view
floating to space on a bubble he blew
try not to get lost all the way up there
high as a kite with no string
he believes in his good luck charms
feathers that he glued to his boots
there's no holding him down
so brave of him to try something new
this kid's looking forward to flying

staring inward starry eyed adventurer
holds his breath until he returns
from off the planet had a different view
he's found a way to feel weightless for now
his dreams as real as gravity
free from orbit he breaks into heaven
as a stranger wearing blue.
