I consider the telling of dreams as dull or duller than hearing about your weekend with the in-laws. I'm trying to do something different here. With these I try out several ways of recounting dreams that are poems, almost ritualized proclamations, soapbox rants, philosophical excursions—while always trying to stay true to the incoherence of the dream.
The dream narratives were all recorded in one day (I think September 4, 2016). My sinuses were badly congested that day (as they so often are), to the extent that my gulping of air interfered with the rhythm and enunciation of the reading. I chose to go with those recordings to maintain timbral unity rather than striving for perfection.
I was born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1957. I've been drawing all my life and painting since about 1975; I started writing poetry and rants in, maybe, 1976; since 1996 I've been recording those poems and rants, usually with a "musical" backing.
I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota. My partner and I have two children. I have a day job that is in no way artistic.
