Never Enough from The Water by Sunflowers for Sam

This was the second song I wrote for the EP, but it turned out to be the note I wanted to end on. It's kind of hopeful, but heartbreaking at the same time. There's a lot of care, but there's also this sense of loss, or that no amount of care or love will be enough.

The idea of saving someone from themself is not one I think I want to really embody, but this song speaks to part of me that always wants to help, and be good, with those who are suffering.

I'll be openly personal, here, and say that this song is born of a realisation I've had about myself. I will try to maintain relationships with people who cannot give, or provide, equally, or enough in return. I will let myself go without what I need and want, because I want to avoid having to search for it elsewhere. If I can just delude myself into thinking, "This person would surely give me what I want and need, if only they were in a better place, or more capable", then I don't have to move on, and keep looking for someone better suited. That said, mental health often plays a huge role, and there's a guilt that develops around leaving someone you care about because they are mentally unwell. Sure, there is an aspect of self-delusion, and staying with what I know due to fear of the unknown, or low self-worth; but there is also genuine care and love for people who are suffering, and who are not themselves.
