Since my second (of three) major concussions (this one was in 1996), I have had an irrational fear of large bodies of water. Oceans and seas and lakes and fast moving rivers can be paralyzing. It's fascinating, as I grew up on the lakes and rivers in WI, boating, swimming, fishing, chillin, etc. And now I live nearish the Atlantic Ocean (which I've been to several times- the opening and closing of this video are shots I filmed at Sandy Hook National Park).

But water is never just water for me. It is a commodity. It is alive. It is a juxtaposition. It is 'haves and have nots.' It is freedom and imprisonment. It is longing and repulsion. It is many things to many people. And sometimes it's just water.

I have written a lot of songs involving, or about water.
