Finding Flowers by The Black Esper & Teck-Zilla

‘Finding Flowers’ is a 3 track EP by Ibadan-based rapper The Black Esper and Lagos-based producer/DJ Teck-Zilla. The short body of work explores the concept of soul searching in this game called life. The Black Esper dives into his own struggles from fighting inner demons, seeking internal and external validation to attaining a higher purpose as an artist and a young black man striving in the biggest city in Africa. He approaches the subject with a tinge of reflection and a dash of boldness while delivering impassioned performances over the laid-back lo-fi trap backdrop provided by Teck-Zilla.
The project opens up with “Lost Souls,” with a backdrop draped in melancholic textures ripe with lo-fi riffs, somber flutes, and a booming bass-laden trap drum groove. The Black Esper takes the listener deep into his world where he is beset on all sides by iniquities, his own self-doubt but he is still determined to make the best out of it. This is followed by the titled track filled with heavenly guitar riffs, sparse trap drums, and a nostalgia-inducing texture that serves as the perfect backdrop for The Black Esper’s journey down memory lane till the present.
