possibilities by steven leak and ottmar soulier
Ottmar: i couldn’t and wouldn’t dare to imagine we would continue to create music over and over again.
steven leak is such a busy guy who needs more than 24 hours in a day to get things done. where does one fit in?
but we met again, somewhere in space… in this world where magic is created.
we keep astonishing each other time after time, album after album.
it is a huge privilege to work with steven. his soundscapes evolve in a high and fruitful tempo.
his creativity inspires me, seems endless and is highly infective. i truly hope to continue this infection with many more collaborations to come.
steven: ottmar and i met initially through a mutual admiration and love of the music of jon hassell.
“possibilities" is our fourth album.
with this album, i sent ottmar a set of seven soundscapes and he had carte blanche to do with them what he wished as well as to add his own instrumentation.

ottmar hears and feels and brings the music he hears and feels to my soundscapes (which act much like underpaintings to his music) . . . . He also brings tremendous enthusiasm and excitement … when he brings his music alongside my soundscapes he sends clips and joy-filled messages!!!
the continued growth and diversity in our music is truly wonderful. with this album, ottmar found so much that i wouldn’t have imagined and created a beautifully coherent whole made of beautiful parts . . . . it’s a real joy to co-create music with him!

Steven Leak: I work with Arturia Minifreak and Microfreak synthesizers.
i run many of the signals from these two synths through Red Panda Tensor and Particle pedals, a TC Infinite pedal, a Zoom multiplex pedal. i also incorporated a koshi wind chime, tuned wine glasses, oven rack, bear bell, and other found objects and sounds. all of this was at some time or another, live-room recorded onto a Zoom H4N.
