Friends from Naptown Sound by Steve Allee

This song was inspired by Gil Evans’ arrangements for the Brazilian vocalist, Astrud Gilberto. Again, I heard this recording in high school. The music was rich, mysterious and exotic to my ears. This was my first glimpse of music outside of the US.
I was later fortunate to visit Brazil and meet and perform with the musicians there. Those meetings and experiences have become lifelong friendships.

Steve was born in Indianapolis, IN. He studied with pianist Claude Sifferlen and joined the Buddy Rich band at age 19. Steve is a Yamaha Performing Artist and has performed with
Slide Hampton, James Moody, Benny Golson and many others. Steve has been a member of the Rufus Reid's Trio.
