Five Panels by Square Drops

Five Panels is the second project by Square Drops, the duo formed by beatmakers GreenMindz and Latué Beats. Across twelve tracks, the album continues to explore the boundaries of hip hop and neo soul, this time moving almost entirely away from traditional sampling to embrace a more instrumental approach, built around guitars, analog pedals, and synthesizer-based sound design.

Conceived almost in parallel with Sips, their previous work, Five Panels marks a new step in the duo’s sonic journey. While it retains the essence of beatmaking, it introduces a more organic and melodic palette. The album plays with soft textures, warm harmonies, and meticulous production, offering a sense of calm without falling into the clichés of the lo-fi hip hop aesthetic that dominates digital platforms. Five Panels does not aim to replicate formulas or fit into a fixed category: it’s an open exploration of what can emerge when beatmaking intersects with instrumental composition, improvisation, and attention to tone and texture.

Released under Soula Label, the project is accompanied by a cassette edition, with the visual concept developed by Fluff. The five-panel cap—an omnipresent item in contemporary hip hop and streetwear culture—functions here as a statement of identity: this is who we are. A simple yet meaningful piece of clothing that follows its wearer through countless adventures, and in each of its panels, holds an emotional connection to those everyday objects through which we express ourselves.
