It's about the time we have
and about the time we've already lost

As the swollen hours fall,
leaves and acorns hold their promise
I could spare a ring
to listen while they sink their sonnets

It's about the time we've added up
And about the time that we're spending on all this stuff
Is it enough?

Will the frozen months
preserve our blood with power chords or dumb luck,
Until the thawing mud
cracks the outer shell and we're unstuck?

Begone about your business [now]
Let others tell of storms and showers
It's later than you think [somehow]
And shadows tell of [only] sunny hours

a tempo, parallax // singable again

sundial shadow // glowering straight up
or now, as then, will become as once

Thought we were paying for youth with efficiency
We couldn't believe we were finally having some fun
with a truth in tow

Leaning out from the caravan
Swimming toward the surface
It could be 63 outside and summertime
For all the Old Man knows of the grand design
Now his seventh son is turning 49

A tempo, semaphone, punch in again

Sundial shadow, towering in time
for now, as then, will become but a rhyme

Shadow of a bird on wing
darkness scattering the dust with the seeds
we were bearing the tinsel away
as the year is blown

Filaments for the needlepoint
Fiddleheads for the whittlers
Will we be 63 in good time?
Three cubes in the bitter punch
Who even knows what goes on a club...
