Still Mornings from Carolina Mountains by Sparrow Smith
An ode to winter. Soothing for the soul and psyche. A celebration of staying home, hunkering down, making soup and spending time with loved ones. The winter is an oft maligned time that is a deeply important part of the cycle for most of us. I avoid rest and tend to overly focus on output, productivity, and constant motion. Writing this song was potent medicine, reminding myself of the pleasant side of slowing down. This is one of the Appalachian psych folk tunes on the record and I really dig the feeling of it. If possible, listen to this song sitting by the woodstove, or at least close your eyes and imagine yourself there.
