There ain’t nothing like the Carolina mountains in the fall.
Where are the trees yearly remind us what it’s like to lose it all
When the harvest helps us know our neighbors answering the call

The Appalachian autumn is my favorite time and place.
Savering the late sun as it sets upon my face
When the turning of the leaves can help teach us to go with grace
There ain’t nothing like the Carolina mountains

Burgundy of black gum, trees,
a sweater in a sweet, strong breeze
Laying down of heavy things
Burying of next year seeds

Even when the river rises up responding with her rage
I’ll return to tend her wounds and rest in her embrace
