"Broken" – Track Description
“Broken” is a raw and unflinching track that delves into the pain of betrayal, manipulation, and the emotional destruction caused by deceit. Originally named Locked & Loaded, the song tells the story of a friend who loses everything he’s worked for—his money, his family—at the hands of someone who uses lies and deceit to tear it all away. But it is also written in the knowledge that no matter how deep the hurt, you can still rise up and protect what you’ve earned.
The intro riff was written by my son, who had only just started playing guitar when I heard him playing it one day. It was heavy, raw, and powerful. I asked what song it was and he simply said "I just made it up"—I instantly knew it was going to be a part of something special. The riff became the backbone of this track, setting the tone for the frustration, anger, and heartbreak that flows through the lyrics.
Adam’s verse perfectly complements the theme of the song. He brought his signature style, blending wit and grit as he raps about the aftermath of betrayal. Together, we worked on crafting a song that explores how we can be fooled, how our minds can be manipulated, and how it's sometimes hard to see the truth until it’s too late. But it’s also a song about reclaiming your power, and refusing to be broken.
