Death Genesis by Screamr

Previously an artist familiar to mostly extreme experimentation within genres such as harsh noise and drone, Screamr's 2020 album Death Genesis is one of the most ambitious attempts in their production history to bring together their vast vision for music production with a more accessible style for listeners to ease into. As a result, we received an energetic noise-influenced breakcore album, both heavily influenced by their previously work and something completely fresh.

There's an undeniable air of inspiration that stems from both the spectacle of low-bit, ultraviolent games of the past, and a dungeon crawling atmosphere that brings back memories of games that kept up the action while allowing finesse from the user's mind.

Many of the tracks manage to blend styles, using both familiar styles of drumwork to breakcore listeners while also adding in occasional kicks that are reminiscent of gabber, along with rougher instrumentation that may remind listeners of more noisy style of hardcore electronica.

The unique style of accompanying composition (mostly comprised of short, chippy synth stings) delivers a lot to add to the album as well, providing a more interesting backdrop to the breaks and lighter drumwork in front of it.

All in all, Death Genesis is an album that many listeners would be missing out on without it being present in their collection, and is certainly worth at least a passing listen by any fan of fast, driving electronic music.
