New Beginnings by Sebastian Reynolds

New Beginnings is the new collaborative album from UK producer Sebastian Reynolds, released via his PinDrop label on 4th July 2025. The album features 10 tracks with many exclusive, as yet unheard reworks by Sebastian, including material coming from collaborations with his previous bands from his native Oxford, star acts Flights of Helios and The Epstein. Other Oxford favourites and long-term friends Dubwiser and Brickwork Lizards make appearances, alongside Irish artists Bróna McVittie, Rezo and The Mining Co. as well as West Country ensemble Will Lawton & The Alchemists and New York duo Kritters. The album showcases Sebastian's dextrous, innovative production skills and his ability to craft and sculpt vocal led, song structured music in contrast with his compositional atmospheric work with Neon Dance company and his athletics themed bangers produced with Dubwiser and darqwud.

In terms of concept Sebastian has been greatly inspired by classic trip hop, producer led records such as Mezzanine by Massive Attack and Psyence Fiction by Unkle, and, whilst there is a trace of trip hop in some of the tracks, notably Fossils of the Mind, Molotov and The Jackal, a rich vein of cosmic indie pop makes itself known on tracks such as One Year To Go and New York, and climactic album closer Make This Our Drone which has an epic, shoegazing crescendo of yearning, and album opener Beginnings, a re-imagining of the material from the Endings album by Flights of Helios, certainly has roots in acts such as Sigur Rós and Animal Collective. IYSCM is a collaboration between Sebastian and cult American guitarist Myles Cochran, with the duo collaborating to re-imagine Myles's haunting If You Could See Me, taking it into a pulsing, atmospheric nu disco direction, calling to mind Arthur Russell and Brian Eno's early solo releases. The title and subtext of the theme ties in between the art of remixing and reshaping material, and a spiritual theme of rebirth and spiritual growth through religious experience.

Off the back of the release of a string of singles and EPs Sebastian Reynolds released his debut album Canary in September 2023 to critical acclaim, receiving plaudits from blogs, magazines and radio across the world. The Cascade single garnered multiple plays on BBC6 Music from Steve Lamacq and Deb Grant, and Fetus was featured by Mary Anne Hobbs. Sebastian continues to collaborate with Neon Dance, and has a series of film soundtrack commissions in the pipeline.
