Tributum by Nox Intempesta

It was a clear night in the dead of Winter as the little girl peered out of the window of her bedroom. It was midnight and she was supposed to be asleep hours ago but she was so excited about the last day of school before Christmas break that her mind just wouldn't settle down.

Since she couldn't sleep, she got out of her bed, went over to the window and looked out at the moonless night. The stars were bright this night as she was transfixed on the constellations and other patterns they made in the sky.

She had learned at an early age from her mother, the importance of pattern recognition and it was an attribute at which she accelerated in astonishing speed, recognizing patterns in her environment that other people either couldn't see or didn't dare to imagine.

And so it was with the stars. She observed things beyond science, things that, if she had told other people, they would lock her away somewhere far away, as they would have the belief that she had a profound disorder of the mind.

She stood transfixed, gazing intently at the slowly shifting patterns in the heavens and instinctively knew that the world she inhabited would soon be very different, if it even existed at all soon after this cold and chilly night gave way to the light of one of the last days of this planets existence.
