Dragonbreath: A conceptual guitar album by Scott Ibex

In the year of the dragon these beautiful aural sculptures visited me. The artistic concept of medium fusion transformed these singular instrumental arrangements into a musical journey that seemed to mirror the stages of life. Each part of the album is linked through this conceptual thread of development. The music itself explores progression during the acoustic-tapping and raga stage my art has entered.

Part I (songs 1 – 4) is entitled Nuance. This music represents the beginning of life. It is dedicated to youth and the many fleeting feelings of excitement during both childhood and musical discovery. Approximately 8 months ago this emotion revisited me as an adult artist exploring new musical territories reflected by these early acoustic-tapping pieces.

Part II (songs 5 – 8) is entitled Journey. These songs represent times and people who have influenced my life into adulthood. Not Soon Forgotten is dedicated to my mother and her teachings, as is Love is True Wealth. Waltz of the Gingerbread Fairy is entitled to honor the spirit of my Godfather whose playful attitude towards life (and Christmas Gingerbread house gifts) still inspire me today. Mission Control, a turning point in the album, signifies transition and a prayer for enlightenment to find us all in the form of inner-peace and inter-personal harmony.

Part III (songs 9 – 11) is entitled The Dream. It represents the musical embodiment of peace. Each piece expresses my artistic dream, to create, find, and bring peace to all. This dream was musically reflected through a wave of calm which appeared within my guitar. Songs such as When Grace is Commonplace the World Will Sound Like This, Infinite Peace, and Featherball Movies – a creative euphemism for dreaming which my grandmother used to coo me to sleep as a child, fuse the emotions of sound with this great prayer for the future.
