Little Deaths by Sage Christie

Not long after my longtime partner and I sold our house and separated, I met up with some pals at a folk fest in Kansas. One of them took me home, showed me around town, kissed me on a bridge, and drove me to the airport. That whirlwind romance sparked a slew of breakup songs, ten of which became Little Deaths. At its heart, this record is a eulogy for closeness and a blueprint for how I want to love others and myself.

This album was recorded five times: once at my folks' house, once in New York City, once at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, once in a cabin in the woods (see Little Deaths, stripped bare), and once at my friend Nick's Misty Music Studios (also Asheville). You're listening to the fifth.

Writing Little Deaths, and becoming closer friends with the person who initially inspired its songs, ultimately led me to realize my trans identity. I began transitioning vocally during the recording process, and you can hear me testing out my instrument in new ways throughout the album.

Dedicated to Rhea, Seph, the ghost of love, & everyone haunted by it.
