those colours that you see,
when you close your eyes, rub them tight. maybe haven't slept in a bit too long.
brain interpreting pressure as light. creates patterns out of nothing -- its greatest power.
these patterns that grow, morph, evolve, die, rebirth, grow, expand, consume your vision -- your fake vision -- the colour isn't real, remember?

there's a little game you like to play, how long can you hold your eyes shut?
how much nothing can you see?

you close your eyes. you note the loud hum of the air conditioning unit and the softer, gentler buzz of the air purifier that you just bought.

the longer you sit with your eyes shut, the more vivid it becomes. at first, spots. dark blues and violet spots that creep and grow and fade.
you're used to it, that's the easy part.
then lines, wriggling across your retinas. different colours, greens, reds, blues. the greens are a little brighter this time than before.
then you see shapes, even brighter now, undulating. pulsating. something you've never seen before: a figure, like almost humanoid but with a wingspan, it fades. you think you hear a noise, but it fades too. then you see a fractal of blues and purples, expanding, conquering your field of vision as the inky black nothing is replaced by flickering, strobing colour. then you see the static, and it's loud, unbearable. it hurts so much you open
your
eyes.

and that colour that you see is all around you, and the darkness has disappeared.
you listen to your environment, hearing the gentle wind against your back, the hum of a grasshopper, the squeaks of a cricket. you hear the bark of a cat and the meow of a dog. a bird call you've never heard before. you notice that there is no sun, yet the sky remains a vivid, piercing blue.
you see deer in the distance.
and the grass stretches for miles.
