Connewoodz by LXC

The part of town of Leipzig they call Connewitz has been a well-known hub for leftish activism as well as anarchistic escapism and was an important inflowance and life center of the LXC around 2001-08, from Strukturbruch nights over Fakecore shows, short before joining Bassmaessage. This collection of tuna is covering the vibes of these wicked years in south LE and most of the faster tunes originating from the red room studio bassed around Hildebrandstrasse in post code area 04277.

Dropscience meant to be the title theme for Leipzig's Global Space Odyssey street parade in 2002 and its extended ambient intro was used in promotive trailers and such. This intro was shortened for the picture disc 12" release later that year. The legendary Dropping Science label might have been a hug(e) inspiration here, no doubt.
The Dawns of 99 and 2000 were the most excessive and successive approach into stuff like amen bangers and so it was kept on trying. The 2001 version made it onto a bunch of local compilations on tapes and CD-Rs. The 2002 thing already lost his mind so much that the series got defunct.
Think was nothing but an hommage to Lynn and James and all the amazing studio people involved in this break of the breaks. Unreleased track until today!
Sophisticut is one of the few tracks who made it out of the late LXC liveact into a full arrangement and a final tune. Several hoovers and samples got added and the laser hunt for Asteroids may begin!
Tomakin should melt world music and techsteppy jungle together. It was an exlusive demo for the Santorin label, which requested a rework and even rejected Tomakin's Revenge. There is a pvc cut with both versions of 7 copies around. Tomakin is a character out of Orwell's Brave New World: a conservative hypocrite who is secretly still in love with the former "savage" society. Tell me something.
The Most Important is a dive into the world of Drumfunk and by accident one if the first okayish sounding mixes ever achieved. It was meant experimental and based on a theoretical approach, but its fun fact is that actually this got signed to a limited 12inch on Santorin in the end instead of Tomakin.
Perceiving Doors happened thanks to the Protocut mailing list where producers were challenged to do a deep piece that kicks at the same time.
Cyclotron is a track by Protocut homie Barth on Plain Productions' second vinyl release that we've loved from our hearts and which gets still played out today where it fits. The remix is an honourable mention but couldn't hold up any candle to the absolutely brilliant original.
When Alphacut got kicked off, new connections popped up and so did the pretty spontaneous online collaboration with MZE (rip) which led to Stick Em Up which became the ACR 002 A side. To pay reference to the very first plate, Cycom was remixed for a mad Rude Bwoy Remix on ACR 003 flipside.
Wannabeatz was initialized by ALX who requested Mashnum PI to do a Move It mashup and due to the lack of a fitting jungle tune this one was created from scratch instead. Thanks pal! Ah BTW, do you hear the switch from outboard into DAW?
After doing a Breakcore whatever night named Mash It featuring the US label's Mash It heads at another off location, DJ C was down to get his Whowahseekyo roasted in full effect: the Whoohoo remix shows one of the first major uses of outboard stuff: a Copycat tapedelay was used excessively to create the tape stop fx by hand.
Back On Trip Remix for Hi-Lar was a great opportunity to show off dnb sound design concepts, reverse tape overdubs and a classic layout back in the box, resulting in a timeless piece, happily supported by no other then the mighty overseas Offshore Recordings label. A turning point for sure.
Being a bit lost in 70s cineast movie binching, the wicked LSD scene in Easy Rider led to foundations of I Know U, taking brushy jungle to a next level long before tribal dnb became a serious thing and the great ting it is until today, thankfully being picked up by Subtle Audio's offshot Bustle Beats.
To round up this package, The Necessity For Reputation is a bonus special backing track of an edit of a well-known dnb theme which was done for final boss part of a set and remained uncleared for all over the years. This time in a special censored edit, maybe it will see the light of day on some small batch DIY pressing in a bright phuture?
