rifling through the underbrush
bogbird clutterbuck nattleprance gooseneck
whirling tercet ornery thrum
longhaired fiddlebow loping wandercrum
skree of the reedweasel clack of the woodfish
trill flam thrush dram ratamacue
beasts murk and forage comb the wooded floor
unearth decaying soil lift the forest's petticoats
stir her mucky loins for damp treasure wake soft monsters
creatures tilt and wheel
darkness saturates every moist clod
until night's last beast bellows its last long low refrain
falls slain
bleeds its last long slow breath
lost to the siren wail singing night is over
night is over night is over
day break the spell into transluscent mist
red raven and the elephants sleepwalk from the forest
out of night into the veil of morning light
dark as smoke light as gauze concealing and revealing
the stick and stone the simple beasts the air breathing
the warm flush of wind and dreams wandering into unblinking day
scruff bramble thistle heath and heathen dung fog memories
of night's last lost long low reveries
