You know when you’re feeling like a good sesh – time with friends, out dancing, feeling good and a little cheeky; not a worry in the world and everything seems great .. the new tune by Riot Jazz Brass Band is a musical representation of that feeling, and it’s called Frisky.
Composed by drummer Steve Pycroft, Frisky starts at a slow, steady hip hop groove which gradually works its way towards a mischievous trombone riff reminiscent of Subjugate and Dem A Sus (also composed by Steve.)
The middle of the tune features solos by Sam Warner (trumpet) and Richard Foote (trombone) – giving way to the second build section.
As the second build section develops, it seems to be a repeat of the first build, that is until the drums suddenly shift into double time, drum & bass tempo – where the listener realises the party is far from over! With a second wind, Frisky explodes into a final rave section which is sure to get the listener off their bottom and dancing around the house!
Frisky is out on 27th June 2025 on Riot Jazz Records.
Since setting sail in late-noughties Manchester, Riot Jazz Brass Band has been the bare-breasted, fist-pumping galleon figure of the Riot Jazz armada. Stirring up a hot-pot of peace-lovin' aggro-jazz and re-interpreted dancefloor bangers, these brass-wielding super-heroes of fine-tuning the good times have filled ear-holes, dance floors and festival fields across countries and continents!
