"In form similar to other works of immersive ambient techno, in style the album differs from the spirited-away forest of GAS, sailing romance of the Sight Below or concrete dub of Porter Ricks. Its aesthetic focus is on interactions within a kind of dualism between emotive, inner intimacy and vivid space: on the one hand, despair, depression and even parental love, on the other material grit, imperfection and degradation. The project conveys these aspects audiovisually: elaborating on the cover imagery, the video for ‘Bone Carrying Birds’ comprises imposing close-ups of organic matter—fresh and decaying alike—and a tableau-format focus on scenery detail, entailing only slight or gradual movement.
The album’s overall effect is of melancholy intensity, throbbing pace and powerful enclosure of detail, making Verglas a beautiful, absorbing and haunting work.”
