“Witchwood” is the first full foray into fantasy synth from Swedish black metal metal artist, Mordran. The eleven-track full-length acts as the OST for a game that does not exist, a dark fantasy RPG adventure set in a world of endless rain, swirling fog, haunting dreams, and occult sorcery. Mordran notes, “With Black Metal albums, I usually record the music first and let it guide the thematic direction afterward. With Witchwood, however, the process was reversed: I started with the concept of creating a soundtrack for an imaginary video game, and composed all the music with that idea in mind.” The end result is an immersive soundscape of brooding melodies punctuated by moments of shimmering beauty and swelling danger telling the story of a journey that gets progressively darker as the listener gets deeper and deeper in the woods.
