Sabbatical by Rangers
Hey friends this is my newest album "Sabbatical". I went back and forth for a while on what to do with this one. It's all instrumental with a few samples but not nearly to the same extent as "Spirited Discussion". A lot of these songs have obvious space for vocals. Since the album feels a bit un-finished I thought it would make sense to release Sabbatical as BC and streaming only. Sonically there are no big leaps here although it does sound a bit more methodical than "Spirited Discussion". "Sabbatical" has all of the cartoonish garishness you would expect from a Rangers album along with some clumsy tropical stylings. I almost moved to Naples, Florida in October of 2019 for a job so some of these songs are the soundtrack to "what might have been" (Google Naples, FL btw). Like everyone right now I miss my friends, many who are scattered along either coast. A lot of these tunes are future soundtracks to postponed trips. Some are past observations from trips to Hungary, Mexico, Croatia and Spain. This feels like it will be the last project for a long while. I don't want to say it's the final project because I would feel stupid if in a year from now I'm putting out Sabbatical 2. I have been writing and recording music in some fashion since 2005. Sometimes it's been a healthy outlet, sometimes not so healthy. At this point I think I would need a fresh perspective to carry on with this caper.
