I was down among the fields when two sailors came along
They had money in their pockets and they sang a drinking song
They looked at me with prying eyes, passed the jug around
And then they made me swear to hold my tongue forever

I have known the valley roll since I was just a girl
And the sweetest flowers grow here, quite the finest in the world
But they're blood red rib bones; I will not return
For I have made a vow to follow them forever

So I dressed myself in travelling clothes, I stowed myself away
On their ship docked safe and waiting at the bridge by half-way bay
And I held my time, I contemplated weapons and the ways
That I would make those young men pay forever

So now I look at you my child, what can I let you know?
Should a mother live a life based on the secrets kept below?
