Lyrics
We’re all afraid of each other’s shadows
That spotlight starts to burn so we stick to back rows
Turn heroes into cowards and give megaphones to assholes
If you’re a fast learner then please act slow
I can be a little extra
I’m a garnish
Like cilantro you may love it or hate it
But like cilantro the ones who hate it will go out of their way
to complain enough to
make sure that it’s famous
so hey uh
I didn’t choose the game
but if you’re makin’ me play it
Let’s lace up
Let’s do some reps in the echo chamber
if we’re so desperate for validation
Don’t you care about winnin’?
I don’t care about winnin’
Tell me now exactly what you want me to do
Tell me now exactly what you want me to do
Don’t you care about livin’?
I don’t care about livin’
If I know they won’t
write about it now
Go on now and show us you’re woke
go for the throat
Righteous white kids in city streets
The type to tell homeless folks
askin for change
To be the change they wish to see
They can talk but they cannot feel
You say you sippin’ tea
I’m gettin’ sleepy so
that tea is chamomile
you said what he said what she said what he said what she said what he retweet
Velocirapper style
What were you needing to prove?
You need to be seen but
You act like the world is a T Rex and it
only sees when you move
So you keep on moving exposing yourself and stay seething on
the things you see in the news
and spend so much time composing a post
you didn’t do anything that you needed to do
You say you want a revolution
I really don’t think that you do
When the evil’s so far out of reach
it gets easy to hate the ones who are eating with you
And no I really do not think it’s right
I was so ready to be in this fight
now baby
fight now baby
so tell me how you think I’m wrong
(Tell us a story, Adam)
When I was 10 years old
I didn’t fit in with the kids at school
I was into Goosebumps books
they were into pigskins and rules
and they picked on me ruthlessly
One day on the playground this big kid named Chris say “hey dick”
and threw
a basketball so hard at my chest
it knocked off my glasses and knocked my wind out too
I went to my mom and my mom said “Adam, look, kids are cruel”
and this might be weird but I thought that if I looked like them they’d give me an inch or two
so we went to JC Penney’s and got laced up with some Nike gear
the next day I stepped into the school
and Chris said “hey, Poindexter, did your mom take you shopping so we wouldn’t pick on you?”
Look
See I can recognize a bully
I can recognize it fully
it’s never surprising to see
I’m more Xanadu than Xanax
I’m more pantone blue than manic
I have canceled you already
I have changed the channel too
and turned the lights off and gone dancing
give me death give me perspective
give me everything you missed cuz you were always so attractive
Kindness is not a contest and
my heart is open for your hatred
I will swallow and rearrange it
and target the mark you missed while you were waiting for someone to come and tape you cuz
I don’t care about winnin’
