Seaside Variations by N Chambers

I was thrilled to learn we’d be treated to not one, but two, collections of mostly unreleased Norm Chambers’ material. Norm had previously expressed to me an interest in one day bringing out a body of work that combined loop-based compositions with purely electronic/pattern based sounds, and that can finally be heard in these uncovered recordings. Hypnotic and evolving jazz loops intertwine with intricate layers of bells, mallets, and gamelan to create alien, metallic tones. Ghostly blips skitter atop the throb of dub bass timbres. As always with Norm’s work, there’s a tension between thoughtful composition and the seemingly random that is deeply compelling. Hearing all of these elements synthesized through Norm’s impeccable sense of balance and arrangement, I know I’m in the right place. Thank you for blessing us with your vision once again, my friend.
