lifted in rays
solace of aerie’s claim

bones in the churchyard
the owls at dusk
watching the statues pray

tell me what you whispered to the grove
as the curtains fell
in the darkness you felt for a door
with your hand aflame

what did the air hear that day?
what did the walls have to say?
you held the key
but couldn’t open the gate

ice in the rainfall
teeth in the night
a ritual sacrifice

voices like mirrors
thundering bright
curses in graven type

hallowed tombs in moon’s still light
cross of oak reminds
dawn is breaking in the fog
but the shroud remains
