The song is a hedonistic satire of consumerism, ego and the deeply rooted human phenomenon that always needs more. Sugar is a metaphor for gluttony and indulgence, it gives you a high, is addictive and it can make you sick if you have too much.
The song was made after Nora accidentally ate Marijuana infused gummy bears, feeling sick and complaining that her head had turned into a vacuum. She had eaten the candy because she was craving for something sweet. So came the song naturally.
