Lyrics

I played my song in the basement
I played my song on the internet
I played my song for you to hear it
Even though there’s a million others like it

I was feeling wasted even though I never truly tasted it
I had sworn the stuff off in the summer of sophomore year
They were baked and berating, and I acted like I didn’t hate it
We’d play that song for hours in the woods where no one could hear

I played my song on the stereo
I played my song in the Sable
I played my song just like my heroes
Even though I never could get near them

I was feeling tested by the time we set out in the van for it
I thought that I had nothing to lose till I lost that feeling we shared
It wasn’t part of the playing, it was more that I couldn’t be staying
Besides what the hell were we saying about how much it was that we didn’t care?

Who do you blame for your failures?
Who can you see in your future?
Amongst the shakers and movers
You thought you’d dance that way forever

I treated it like a mission, now it’s something that I do on the weekends
It’s always somehow demeaning to think about how big it all seemed
The rudest conversation is a never ending cry of remember when
And the futile begging to take me back again, so I trade a song for a memory
