aguanta by La Sonora Clandestina
Sombra is a multi-undisciplinary artist and musician. A descendant of the Condor y la Aguila, Sombra currently lives on unceded Duwamish territory. Emerging from the chrysalis of Nación de Humo, La Sonora Clandestina, in name, is a tribute to bombastic cumbia of all regions who bear and deliver “the sound”. Sonora has primarily, but not exclusively, performed and been featured in Washington State, earning an artist residency at the Nalanda West Buddhist temple and contributing a long-form composition to the Wayward in Limbo series curated by Nonsequitur in Si’ahl.
An exploration of expression, gifting a voice to concealed thoughts and shelved emotions, AGUANTA is a guided journey through diaspora, distance, death and longing. Captured on tape during a snowstorm, the tones and cadence set a pace for imaginative respite. This collection of sound collages cascades with tranquil, shimmering textures and clouds them in drone. AGUANTA is a statement calling for resilience, to hold on and take a stand in the face of opposition, to carry on and live.
