Marginals by Nujumi

Nujumi is dead. Spirit conjured of concrete dusted binary archives his mythos remains Misrayeen in nature, incapable of shaking dust storms and mudbrick tombs from his robes. His ploys for an auricular habitude fell on clay clogged ears, and insensate hearts. He lovingly carved lattices from the scraps he could glean, erecting ornate ribs of mashribeya to meanings he was assured were too bright to take in directly, whilst others lit bonfires. Now even the moths avoid his diminished demands. Love was born of these travails, but for this palms offer no nourishment; only fibre for rope or yoke, with death or grind the only annihilations offered. Cataracts run dry, and their clogged arteries show no sign of allowing another season.

Returning, when always surmountable tides allow readier passage, there will be nothing but hieroglyphics hacked to a tree, legible only to those who took time to hear. May new spirits crest me through foothills and peaks, and finally allow me two know the place I will barrow.

Marginals is the current conclusion to my work as Nujumi. My work is always locational, since creating this record in 2022 I have relocated, first to Kuwait, and now North Carolina... my mind no longer dwells in the same psychic space as it was lead to by Cairo. I may return there to this space in future, but for now, I am heading into the woods. it was

Marginals was recorded and produced in Cairo, with one track contributed with help from Stafford Glover, and John Hannon, in East Anglia. It has sat on a awaiting the attention and 3 years on, I am ready to move on. To me it is the pinnacle expression of the fraught internalized experiences of living in Egypt, and speaks to places of great beauty, joy, love, terror and isolation and alienation.
