Up by Noise Floors

At the first live Poor Northern gig in a small venue in Birmingham, one of the audience members said in a quiet moment between songs "are you okay hun?" This question stuck in my mind since.

I never set out to write sad songs, just honest ones – but maybe that comes with the territory. Regardless of the actual intention behind my first E.P. (and other songs to follow), "Up" was created as an antidote: The only clear intention behind it being to create something uplifting.

If then my first E.P. could be said to be a slow slide inside the brain of a thirty-something year old who’s lost touch with where they’ve come from and has no idea where they are going next, then "Up" might resemble a flimsy looking rope ladder on which you can just about reach the bottom rung.

The whole E.P. is made with only the Teenage Engineering OP-Z and the Dreadbox Nymphes. The shift towards electronic and synthesised sounds is quite a departure from the last record, which includes exclusively acoustic instruments. The stylistic gap between these two E.P.s is however filled by the shifting character of my live set, where I usually perform solo with only a few simple electronic instruments and voice.

Noise Floors (aka-Poor Northern) is a predominantly electronic music maker, using hardware synthesisers, samplers and drum machines to create a wide variety of music.
