We tumbled into Murmury sideways this time, chasing the space between sleep and wake where all the good questions live. This album is our map of that wobbly border – the one where you're fighting to keep your eyes open while nonsense and clarity do a silly dance together.

Remember that feeling when you're almost asleep but fighting it? That's our protagonist's whole journey – skipping through checkerboard glades and teacup trees, outwitting drowsiness with riddles and noise while the Knots and Clockhoppers bicker over who gets to make the rules (nobody does, that's the fun bit).

We recorded most of "Not Now, Nod!" after three days of barely sleeping during Liltfair season, with Penny hiding microphones in jam jars to catch all the whispers and giggles. The harpsichord was slightly broken, so every fourth key made this glorious "thwonk" sound instead of a note – we kept it in, obviously! The toy piano on "Checkerleaf Parade" is actually Morris's childhood one that his cat knocked down the stairs. The wonky notes make perfect sense in Murmury.

We wanted that feeling where everything's slightly off but completely right – acoustic guitars strummed with paintbrushes, Mellotron tapes we accidentally left in the sun, field recordings of finches arguing with teakettles. It's psychedelic folk that refuses to behave, pop that keeps changing its mind mid-chorus.

Honestly, this whole record is our love letter to staying gloriously, defiantly awake when everything's telling you to drift off and make sense. The world's serious enough – we'd rather skip through it in umbrella shoes, planting watchfaces and growing question marks instead.
