Insectarium has been building a strong presence in the ambient scene, with music featured on renowned radio programs like Hearts of Space, SomaFM, and Nacht Radio. Joel Hinkle, the composer behind insectarium, has also contributed his talents to several documentaries, and the YouTube series “The Sorrow.” The project's unique sound is a fusion of atmospheric, eerie, and often cinematic soundscapes, drawing listeners into a world where the natural and the surreal collide.

This album, Pit Fiend, continues insectarium’s exploration of darker, more experimental territories, blending organic sound design with electronic elements in ways that captivate both new listeners and long-time fans alike.

"Once, a powerful paladin served the realm with unwavering dedication. Known for his valor and strength, he was celebrated as a hero, even revered as a near-mythical figure. But his shining armor hid a flaw: a growing sense of pride, a belief that he alone could cleanse the world of evil.

As he aged, he obsessed over a past battle when an evil was able to evade his strength; the battle with a pit fiend. His ego was unable to remove his sense of failure, and so he set his sights on the infernal realms themselves, the birthplace of true, unspeakable evil.
A lesser baatazu could have been dispatched by other heroes, but this pit fiend—an ancient, formidable general of the Nine Hells—was a foe only a god or a legend could defeat.
Ignoring the counsel of his mentors, who warned of the dangers of entering the Nine Hells, the paladin sought the secret arcana to create a portal to the fiend’s realm.

The paladin found himself faced with horrors beyond his imagination. The Nine Hells were not the chaotic battlegrounds he expected but instead a realm of cruel order, where infernal schemes and ancient pacts reigned supreme. His holy powers weakened in the oppressive darkness, the weight of his mortal arrogance pressing against him. He pressed on, pride refusing to let him turn back.

Finally, he tracked the pit fiend to its lair: an obsidian fortress surrounded by rivers of molten iron, guarded by legions of devils. He stormed the fortress, cutting down demon after demon, until he came face-to-face with his target.
In the ensuing battle, the paladin learned the true depth of his error. The pit fiend was not just a monster but a master of manipulation and deception, feeding off the paladin’s pride for many years; dark spells were cast to haunt the paladin’s ego, which lead him into the pit fiend’s realm!

As they clashed, the devil taunted him, pointing out how his own pride had led him there, now isolated and weakened. Despite all his skill and strength, the paladin was overpowered.
The paladin was defeated, and crucified to the fiend’s enormous throne. Ten swords attached him to the black stone as an infernal trophy.
The paladin remains in hell for an eternity. He is kept barely alive just to listen to the fiend gloat and lecture him on its brutal strength and the paladin’s poor decision.

The paladin vowed if he ever escaped, he would find redemption. Not in the glory of battle, but in humility and in service to others. He vowed to reject the pride that had driven him to this place.
But there would never be an escape."
