Desert Dog by Kevin Knight

This is a song I wrote for my beloved dog Hubbell, may she rest in eternal peace.

I recently ventured to the Navajo reservation in the high desert of northwestern Arizona to spread her ashes.

I found the exact place where I had adopted her back in 2009.
And then, just up the way from there, on a beautiful ridge looking out at the desert bluffs, that is where I decided to spread her ashes.

There were paw prints in the sand, other rez dogs howling on the wind, a tuft of fur drifting through the juniper breeze, and what appears to be her likeness in shadow in a photo taken of me lying on the ground.
