“Ambient music depicting a mysterious story with a science fiction theme”

Kita Kouhei's 12th album. A slightly mysterious story with a science fiction theme is expressed using ambient music. From distant planets, strange worlds, parallel worlds, the vast flow of time, and universal beauty.
Layered with ArrayMbira, which plays his trademark water-like tone, various original glass instruments, a comically cute kalimba, analog synths with a cloudy texture, old tape noise, and field recordings such as bird calls and cat calls.

Born in 1976, a musician, percussionist, and Array Mbira player living in Kyoto. An artist who creates a unique sound landscape that fuses live musical instruments and electronic music by making full use of the piano that he has been familiar with since childhood, the aesthetic sensibility of paintings that he has always spent with, and the skills of professional percussionists. He also works on commercials, documentary programs, avant-garde stage performances and music for art events.

■ 『SFをテーマに少し不思議な物語を描いたアンビエント音楽の世界』

北航平の12枚目となるアルバム。
今回はSFをテーマにした少し不思議な物語をアンビエント音楽に持ち込んで、遥か遠い惑星から、奇妙な世界、パラレルワールド、広大な時間の流れ、普遍的な美しさなどを表現している。

トレードマークとなっている水のような音色を奏でるアレイムビラをはじめ、どこかコミカルで温かみを感じるカリンバ、曇った質感を纏うアナログシンセ、古いテープノイズ、水の音や鳥の声、飼い猫の鳴き声など日常の風景を切り取ったフィールドレコーディングが心地良く重なるサウンドが聴きどころのひとつ。

また、2023年にコラボレーションした人気ガラス作家オカベマキコによる北航平の為のオリジナル楽器（非楽器）をフィーチャーして、日常と非日常の境界線を丁寧に描いている。

■ 北航平プロフィール

京都市在住の音楽家、打楽器奏者、アレイムビラ奏者、猫廃人。

幼少の頃よりピアノと絵を始める。17歳でドラムを始め、35歳までプロの打楽器奏者として活動。その後サウンドアーティストに転向、39歳でなぜか世界15カ国以上でCDが発売されるという不思議なデビューを果たす。これまでに全12枚のアルバムをリリース。

その他、3人の音楽家（北航平・高山奈帆子・ミムラシンゴ）によるユニットcoconoeでは、高山奈帆子の神秘的なボーカルやコーラスをフィーチャーした、実験的でジャズテイストも感じる「歌ものアンビエントサウンド」を聴かせる。これまでに2枚のアルバムをリリース。

自然音やノイズを用いて曇ったアンビエントサウンド、様々な打楽器や生活音を用いた不規則なリズム、少し暗く少し美しく少し切ない感情表現などを融合した、どこか抽象画のような音風景が特徴。

また、ドラマやCM・ドキュメンタリー番組、舞台やアートイベントなどの音楽も手掛け、第51 回ギャラクシー賞CM部門選奨受賞。

現在、創作活動とそれを邪魔するかわいい猫との共存を模索中。
