Leap seconds are applied to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in order to keep its time of day close to the mean solar time, or UT1. Because the earth's rotation is slowing down, it helps from keeping the times from falling out of sync.
On June 30th we were given a leap second and I thought it might be cool to actually do something productive with that second, so I decided to write a song.
While watching the UTC clock online, I banged my hands down on my keyboard at precisely 23:59:60 without looking. The idea was to create a bunch of random notes that wouldn't normally have existed outside of that added second. The only rule was I had to use all the notes I hit, but I could arrange them in any way I wanted.
