Pyrrhic Flood from Fateswept by Mythikon

We recorded "Pyrrhic Flood" during the worst autumn storms Pelion had seen in decades. Water cascaded down the mountain, turning ancient paths into torrents while we tracked the main guitar parts. Nature's violence became our muse.

The song marks the moment everything falls apart—both in our narrative and sonically. Those pottery smash sounds? Authentic. We salvaged broken amphorae from an abandoned village and mic'd them in a stone courtyard, hurling each piece against marble while rain pounded around us. Something about that destruction felt sacred.

Inspired by Tindersticks' approach to "Tiny Tears" but dragged through Opeth's heaviest moments, we wanted to capture overwhelming forces that render humans insignificant. The galloping rhythm section mirrors the disorientation of being swept away, while Yannis' vocals shift between desperate calls and resigned whispers.

The recurring lyra motif—that haunting tremolo you hear—draws from traditional Thessalian flood laments. My grandmother used to sing something similar during winter storms. We layered it beneath modern dissonance to bridge centuries of Greek relationship with destructive waters.

When the full band crashes in with "We break and thunder, torn asunder," it's meant to feel like that moment when you realize you can't fight the current anymore. Surrender becomes its own kind of power.

This track stands as our response to both mythological deluge tales and the increasingly violent Mediterranean storms that climate change brings to our homeland each year. Ancient warnings echo through modern catastrophe.
