"Former Tura Satana vixen, Tairrie B's back with a vengeance, new band and a new album. My Ruin's 'Speak & Destroy' is one of the hottest albums of this year. 'Terror' is like Madonna is studded leather with more attitude than a pitbull. By now it's permanently inscribed in the rock bible that Tairrie B is not a woman you want to mess with."

"My Ruin‘s debut, 'Speak & Destroy' was recorded and released before Tairrie B met Mick Murphy and was, in effect, a Tairrie B solo album, and her mission statement. In “Terror”, the first single, she says: 'I have the right to remain silent / But I choose to speak, sing, scream / I am lips, hips, tits.' Then, later: 'I point my finger, take the blame / And this time I will own the name / Because no one is going to ruin me / If I have to, I will ruin myself / And it will be my ruin'.”

"Tairrie B, one time rapper / NWA collaborator and frontwoman of LA metal crews Manhole and Tura Satana is back parading a devilish collision of New Wave, metal and spoken word with her new outfit My Ruin. Their debut 'Speak & Destroy' sees Ms B at her most composed, spitting Catholic angst and don't-mess-with-me challenges; a sort of Madonna / Lydia Lunch celebrity death match. Worth a spin just to hear a woman roar through a deliciously unexpected version of 'Tainted Love'. The enigmatic Miss Tairrie B is terror-ific on this pumping. pounding rap-rocker that will fill dance floors and reduce grown men to a flood of tears. 'Terror' is a scary thumper of a number that sees her spoken word style meld perfectly with big NIN style riffing. Impressively more scary than the Rollins Band."

"THE KILLER B.... Debut album for queen bitch Tairrie B's new outfit! With Tairrie B's career to date, it's always been devilishly easy to be blinded by the hype. Ever since the erstwhile peroxide blonde rapper and female confidant of NWA effortlessly scared the smugness out of Terry Christian with her pneumatic Mae West curves and lusciously loose lips on 'The Word' her self-constructed bad reputation has had and unfortunate tendency to precede her, and occasionally overshadow, her art. Since renouncing rap and embracing the scream-queen demeanor of the consummate LA rock bitch (first with Manhole, then Tura Satana), Tairrie has metamorphosed into a copywriter and art editor's wet dream. She delivers controversy and quotes, pouts and preens for the camera like a seasoned seductress, yet always retains an air of eager-to-please professionalism. It is with some relief, then that it can be reported that Tairrie's latest project, this eagerly awaited debut collection from her current combo My Ruin, exceeds all expectations. It's the real deal, a multi-faceted gem of a record, which finds Tairrie B opening up her art, as well as her soul. With 'Speak & Destroy' Tairrie's long awaited metamorphosis to fearsomely self-assured rock goddess is finally complete. The new Tairrie seems entirely comfortable, expanding her vocal range beyond the confines of mere bellowing but don't dismay; she can still shrivel testicles at 50 paces with her trademark guttural roar (witness the full-throttle rollercoaster ride of 'Sick With It'), but elsewhere, we find other dimensions unfolding before our very ears. 'Terror' is a startling stiletto-sharp tirade of spoken word intent, an uncompromising My Ruin manifesto which throbs confidently over a relentless, sledgehammer riff. 'Close Your Eyes' finds Tairrie in sweet, seductive mode, yet it's laced with a delicious undercurrent of exquisite danger. 'Horrible Pain' is a hypnotic and intoxicating incantation of base, diabolic desires. It soon becomes clear that Tairrie is exorcising a variety of her personal demons herein. In My Ruin, Tairrie B has found the perfect musical foil for her unrestrained anger and singular vision, and 'Speak & Destroy' is nothing short of a stark, honest, fire-breathing triumph."

"If you thought Girl Power was about Union Jack dresses then this is an album you need to hear. Self-styled one-woman, tattoo and mascara tornado Tairrie B returns with My Ruin, her first solo project. Alanis with ripped-to-fuck vocal chords and a bigger penchant for religious imagery. But where Alanis blatantly conjures up her pain, Miss B had an incredibly harrowing childhood, and naturally the mark it left is indelible. Her outbursts and no-bullshit attitude have earned her the tag as metal's favourite drama queen; but with 'Speak & Destroy' she's forcing people to ditch this one-dimensional image. Future single 'June 10th' comes on like Madonna's 'Erotic' suffused with a bleak intensity and set in a dripping crypt. Overall 'Speak & Destroy' is the most complete thing she's ever done. Don't be afraid."

"Over the years, people have taken certain bands to their hearts, fiercely defending them and always supporting them through thick and thin. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Machine Head and the list goes on....but if ever there was one person who seems to truly have connected with people, it's Tairrie B. Dream teen drama queen, Manhole, Tura Satana and now My Ruin. This album is magnificent. I'd like to end the review there but it deserves so much more. Opening track 'Terror' with its spoken word verses, is the most stunning self examination you will hear. For all her posturing and swearing, Miss B pens some of the best lyrics around today. All deeply personal, and maybe that's why she matters to people so much. You've probably heard the 'Tainted Love' single by now, the best of the unexplained eighties covers being served up at the minute, it may even chart. 'Blasphemous Girl' is Tairrie at her unstoppable best girl-next-door verses Satan's dominatrix with the immortal line 'God wants a piece of her ass'.The atmosphere on this record is electric and the light-and-shade vocals only intensify the suggestiveness of the soundtrack. Every so often the music suddenly shifts gear like 'Sick With It' and we're in hardcore land with Tairrie tearing strips off everyone in sight. Ambient tracks like 'My Beautiful Flower' and the divine lilting 'June 10th' are further evidence that My Ruin may finally be what Tairrie has been working towards for the past few years. No boundaries, no apologies. Exquisite."

"Whether you like Tairrie B's music is neither here nor there, chances are you will already know who she is, and based on the perception of what you've read, you will have formed your opinion accordingly. Well, I'm here to tell you to throw that opinion in the bin and give 'Speak & Destroy' a listen. You may be in for a surprise. This is not a rap album nor is it a metal album. It's a My Ruin album. The Divine Miss B has decided, if not to bare her soul, then at least to give the listener an idea of what it's like to be Tairrie. It's the most ambitious project she has embarked on so far in her career and the title of the band says it all. During opener 'Terror' she proclaims 'Nobody is going to ruin me. If I have to, I will ruin myself and it will be my ruin." The song is a spoken word homage to the life and crimes of Tairrie B layered over a pounding beat and leaves you gasping for air at its close. It's simply astonishing. The diversity on offer is incredible and has been alien to Tairrie so far. We get the all out assault of 'Sick With It' and 'Blasphemous Girl' before moving into the almost reverential 'June 10th'. We get the full Phil Anselmo style grating vocal mixed with some spoken word and Madonna-esque husky vocals on top of some fine tunes. Marvelous! She can be the ruin of this boy any day!"

"On stage she is hard to resist. Shaking, clawing at herself, falling to her knees, making eye contact with just about anyone brave enough. Tairrie B is undoubtedly a worth star. It is her dangerous cocktail of defiance and vulnerability that makes it all seem so damn real."
- Steve Beebee | Kerrang!

"Forget the Blair Witch Project, this one's definitely not for those who scare easy. The female Henry Rollins proves feisty woman still exist after all."

"If they're serious about their rock credentials, the girls from Hepburn could do worse than attend a pajama party with My Ruin singer Tairrie B. Formerly with Tura Satana (the band, not the Goth icon star of Russ Meyer's Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!), Tairrie B is the poster-girl with a Betty Page pin-up notion of badness, all tight leopard skin, panda-eye mascara and suspenders. Tracks such as "Terror" ("I strike terror among men"), "Bright Red Scream" and "Horrible Pain (Inside My Heart)" loudly proclaim Tairrie's jaundiced outsider worldview, while her band pound out an oddly appealing version of the Nine Inch Nails- style industrial goth-metal juggernaut stomp. But despite her desire to be your Deadly Nightshade her boasts of being a "Blasphemous Girl" give away the essentially reactionary nature of her outsiderdom, whose ethical determinants are still firmly set by the religious culture she so clearly despises. Sometimes, agnosticism can be more extreme than atheism."
- Andy Gill | The Independent U.K.

"Like a chameleon, Tairrie B is always transforming into something new. On 'Speak & Destroy' one minute she slowly slurs her words like a laid back pussycat, while the next she mutates into an eight-legged, ten-mouthed, beast and snarls & bellows with such force that's enough to topple over the Eiffel Tower. Quite simply, 'Speak & Destroy' is a rock and metal masterpiece. Tairrie has delved deep into herself and proved that she is unafraid to display everything to everyone. Each and every track on 'Speak & Destroy' has balls, whether its the stormy resistance of 'Terror', the fucked up, tied up dominant 'Preacher', the tortured roar of 'Blasphemous Girl', the twisted sexiness of 'Horrible Pain' or the pure angelic 'June 10th'. The latter almost too beautiful for words and definitely a stand out track. If you have never heard any of Tairrie's work before, or even if you have, make sure you don't miss this one. It will certainly open up your mind and then destroy it."

"My Ruin are a Los Angeles-based hard rock band fronted by Tairrie B (former vocalist of Tura Satana and Manhole and solo rapper). "Speak And Destroy" is the band's first full length album from 1999. The album covers a lot of varied musical territory. The underlying focus of the music is gothic in nature, but the sound runs the gamut from rap to techno to electronic to solid modern metal. The album is highly recommended to the fan of exciting experimental, hard-edged music. Much of the lyrical content is graphic and adult in nature, and many of the references are quite anti-Christian. So, if those types of lyrics are objectionable to you, you might want to think twice before making the purchase."

"Everyone has an opinion of who she is - from big mouth bitch to iconic role model, sex symbol to half mad harpy."

"Tairrie B's mixture of screaming, spoken word and singing is certainly something to be hold. But do not expect to emerge feeling particularly joyful."

"My Ruin is Tairrie B.'s newest project. Tairrie got her start as a rapper and went on to be in bands Manhole and Tura Satana. She is joined on this project by a host of musicians. This first disc by the band is a great release that covers a lot of varied musical territory. The underlying focus of the music is gothic in nature, but the sound runs the gamut from rap to techno to electronic to solid modern metal (many times in the course of one song). If you are a fan of exciting experimental, hard-edged music, this may be a great disc for you to pick up. One word of warning, though, much of the lyrical content is graphic and adult in nature, and many of the references are quite anti-Christian. So, if those types of lyrics are objectionable to you, you might want to think twice before making the purchase."
