Stolen electricity crackles through this one—literally. We recorded during Mapono's worst power cuts, hijacking juice from the mosque's backup generator. You can hear the actual interference buzzing beneath the beat, that metallic hum when currents cross and carry whispers across neighborhoods.

The market calls weren't planned. We were laying down the percussion when the evening adhan started, mixed with some hustler shouting about knockoff phone deals. Instead of waiting it out, we cranked the mics and let Mapono speak directly into the track. That megaphone effect on the chorus? Pure accident—Khaya was too close to the monitors with his mic when the feedback loop started, but it sounded exactly like those distorted announcements that echo between buildings.

Everything in Mapono runs on information—who's hosting tonight, where the Serefi kettle moved, which Uncles are looking the other way. We built the percussion layer by layer, sampling actual wire fences being strummed and tapped, mixed with that distinctive metallic clang from the mosque's loudspeaker bracket swinging in the wind. Uncle Mpho contributed the domino clicks you hear during the instrumental break—his lucky tiles that apparently "never lose."
