Dawn broke through cemetery fog as we captured the final sounds for this piece. Rain tapped steadily against limestone markers, each droplet carrying minerals that would slowly transform stone to soil. This is our meditation on patience—how lichen claims abandoned monuments, breaking them down while preserving their memory in new forms.

We layered field recordings gathered during three consecutive spring mornings, when rainwater pooled in cracked stone basins. The distant bells you hear around the three-minute mark were recorded at an abandoned church half-submerged by rising groundwater, their tones distorted by the acoustics of the flooded basement below.

Many listeners have noted how this track recalls Brian Eno's "Ambient 4: On Land," particularly in its treatment of environmental sound as musical texture. Yet where Eno constructed imaginary landscapes, we've documented real decomposition—the actual sound of memory being transformed rather than erased.

The warmth in the closing minutes emerged unexpectedly during mixing. We had initially planned a starker conclusion, but discovered that by stretching the ribbon samples and allowing them to harmonize with the rain patterns, something resembling comfort emerged from decay. This unplanned harmony felt like the Sinkyard itself was offering reassurance—that dissolution is not an ending but a transformation.

We chose this as the album's final statement because it carries a promise: what fades away nurtures what comes after. Memory persists not through preservation but through change.
