Beneath layers of static and decay, a name refuses to disappear completely. We recorded "Faded Inscription" during an autumn evening at the eastern edge of the Sinkyard, where the oldest headstones have begun to sink into the soft earth. The pump organ breathes in faltering patterns, like someone struggling to remember an important detail.

The heart of this piece emerged when we discovered a weathered marble slab, its text nearly obliterated by a century of rain. Three consecutive nights, we returned with different microphones, pressing them against the stone's surface, capturing the subtle resonance as we traced fingertips across ancient lettering. These tactile recordings form the percussion – not obvious as drumbeats, but present in the texture beneath everything else.

During performances, this track transforms the venue. Audiences have described watching particles of dust hanging in spotlight beams as we place contact mics on found objects, creating live variations of the chisel-tap rhythms. Some listeners close their eyes and report seeing faded text swimming behind their eyelids. Others insist they can make out whispered names in the tape hiss, though we recorded no such vocals.

The desynchronized loops intentionally drift in and out of alignment, mirroring the way memory fails gradually – fragments persisting while context vanishes. What remains isn't melody but something more fundamental: the human urge to preserve meaning against time's erosion.
