This album is my statement and reminder that things are much better without drink, even though I had tons of fun times and adventures and some crazy stories because of it, and honestly, there were times when I was at my lowest due to situational and chemical stuff in my brain that drinking genuinely kept me alive. It was the pause button I needed until I was strong enough to figure out how to fix everything else, and once other things were in a much better place, only then could I tackle the drinking addiction!
So, I AM thankful, but now, my relationship with alcohol is completely over. I have much more productive and amazing things to do, see, be involved with, and to give my time, energy, money and focus to.
Yeah, mornings are still really difficult, because I've always been a night owl(!) ever since I was a kid, but my recovery and energy to get started with the day comes along far quicker than it has done my entire life.
After 30+ years of drinking, and at least 20 years of that to extremely major excess, it was time to change the patterns and not rely on it anymore. It's been incredibly difficult, and actually physically painful at times to get to the place I am now, but, absolutely worth it in the end.
If you struggle with addiction (as well as any mental health issues), know that there are people out there who understand where you are, and know it's always possible to get in control of it, even when it feels completely like it isn't. Always shout for help if you need it; and to recognise you need it is a massive and strong step towards fixing it.
